Terms of service

Last updated 20 October 2026

These terms cover your use of the LootEngine desktop app (the app) and this website, lootengine.io (together, LootEngine). By downloading, installing or using the app, or by using the website, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use LootEngine.

The short version

This summary is here to help. The full terms below are what count.

1. Who we are

LootEngine is made by Baker Software (bakersoftware.co.uk), referred to as we, us and our in these terms. You can reach us at [email protected].

2. Your licence to use the app

We give you a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to download, install and use the app on computers you own or control. You can use it to edit DayZ Central Economy files for yourself or for any server you run or help run, whether as a hobby or as part of a business, such as a monetised community server or managing servers for others.

The app is licensed to you, not sold. We and our licensors keep all rights in it that these terms don't expressly give you.

You must not:

3. Third-party components

The app includes open-source components, such as typefaces and code, that are licensed under their own terms. We list them in our third-party notices. Where one of those licences gives you rights in a component, nothing in these terms limits them.

4. DayZ, Bohemia Interactive and mods

LootEngine is an independent tool and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Bohemia Interactive. DayZ is a trademark of Bohemia Interactive a.s.

To use the app you need your own legitimately obtained copy of DayZ, because the app reads item data from the game files on your computer. We don't supply any DayZ game files.

Item names, models and textures, and the icons the app renders from them, belong to Bohemia Interactive or to the authors of the mods they come from. The app reads them, and caches rendered icons on your computer, only so it can show them to you while you edit. These terms don't give you any rights in that content. Don't use LootEngine to extract or redistribute game or mod content unless its owner allows it.

You're responsible for following Bohemia Interactive's terms for DayZ, including any rules on running and monetising servers, and the licences of the mods you use.

5. Your files

The app works with files on your own computer. It reads your game and mod files, and reads and writes the files in the mission folder you choose. Your files stay yours, and we don't receive copies of them.

Before it saves, the app copies the previous versions of the files it's about to change into .loot-editor-backups in your mission folder, keeping the newest 20 sets. It also refuses to overwrite a file that has changed on disk since you opened it. These safeguards reduce the risk of losing work but can't rule it out: a bug, a disk fault or another program could still affect your files. Keep your own backups of anything that matters, and check your changes before you use them on a live server.

You're responsible for the loot settings you make and for their effect on your server and its players.

6. Updates and beta versions

Installed copies of the app check for updates when they start, when you change update channel and when you ask them to, by downloading a small update file from releases.lootengine.io. This is the only time the app contacts us. When an update is available, the app tells you and you choose whether and when to install it. Updates are signed, and the app checks the signature before installing one.

Beta versions are for testing. They're more likely to have bugs, and we may change or remove beta features at any time. Take extra care with backups if you use them.

We may change, add or remove features, and we may stop releasing updates or offering LootEngine for download at any time. Copies you've already installed will keep working as they are, but as DayZ and mods change, older versions may stop reading game files correctly.

7. The website

You're welcome to browse lootengine.io and share links to it. The text, screenshots and design of the website belong to us or our licensors, so please don't copy them wholesale or present them as your own.

Don't try to disrupt the website or the waitlist, for example with automated sign-ups or heavy scraping. If you think you've found a security problem in LootEngine or the website, please tell us at [email protected] rather than testing it further.

When you join the waitlist, our privacy notice explains how we handle your email address. The website links to sites we don't run, such as Discord, and we're not responsible for their content or how they treat your data.

8. Our name and logo

The LootEngine name and emblem belong to Baker Software. You can use the logo files from our brand assets to refer to LootEngine, for example in a review, video, guide or server listing. Use them as they are, without redrawing, recolouring or retyping the name. Don't use them as part of your own product's name or logo, or in a way that suggests we endorse or partner with you. The name is always written “LootEngine”.

9. Community and feedback

Our Discord server has its own rules, and Discord's own terms apply there too.

If you send us feedback, ideas or bug reports, we may use them to improve LootEngine without owing you anything for them. Before you share files or logs with us, remove passwords, admin and RCON credentials, and anything else you wouldn't want made public.

10. Our responsibility to you

LootEngine is free and provided as it is. We work hard to make it reliable, but except where the law says otherwise, we don't promise that it will be free of errors, always available, compatible with every game version, mod or map, or suitable for your particular purpose.

If you're a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your legal rights. If defective digital content we've supplied damages a device or digital content that belongs to you, and that's because we didn't use reasonable care and skill, we'll either repair the damage or pay you compensation. We won't be responsible for damage you could have avoided by installing an update we offered you free of charge, or by keeping backups as these terms advise.

If you use LootEngine for a business, such as a monetised server or managing servers for others, we won't be responsible to you for any loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill or data, or for business interruption, and our total responsibility to you for anything arising from LootEngine is limited to £100.

Whoever you are, we're not responsible for loss or damage that wasn't foreseeable when you started using LootEngine, or that's caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as changes to DayZ, mods or other software.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit or exclude.

11. Ending these terms

You can stop using LootEngine at any time by uninstalling the app. Your mission files and their backups stay where they are.

If you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, we may end your licence to use the app. If we do, you must stop using it and delete your copies. Sections 4, 8, 10 and 13 continue to apply after these terms end.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. We'll publish the new version on this page with a new “last updated” date, and if a change materially affects you, we'll also tell you before it takes effect, through this website, our Discord or the app's release notes. If you keep using LootEngine after a change takes effect, the updated terms apply to you. If you don't agree with them, stop using LootEngine.
